About the founder

I've been designing brands for over nine years. Colour has always been my first language, before words, before strategy, before the brief.

But there were things design couldn't say.

So in 2017, while finishing my thesis at design school, I created Margarida Atelier. Not as an escape from design — but as its most honest extension. A place where colour exists without rules, where intuition leads, where the process is as important as the result.

The work

My artistic approach thrives on experimentation, a fusion of diverse materials and techniques that allows for a natural, unrestricted flow. And yet, amid that freedom, there is always an underlying structure or rhythm, guided by a concept. Most often inspired by the forms and colours found in nature.

My paintings strike a balance between creative spontaneity and thoughtful design, weaving vibrant palettes and organic forms into every piece.

I paint in acrylic and mixed media — on paper and canvas. Each piece is original, signed, and unique. No prints. No reproductions.

I also create hand-painted silk scarves, made locally in Portugal — extending the same colour language from the wall to the body.

The person

Beyond painting, I work as a brand designer, where my work is guided by purpose and problem-solving. This atelier is where my soul speaks freely. What I love most, whether as a designer or as an artist, is losing myself in the act of creation: fully immersing in colour, form, and expression.

I'm based in Lisbon. I'm a mom, a nature lover, and someone who always has paint on her hands.

I work with private collectors, interior designers, and hospitality spaces who want something that can't be found anywhere else. My work has been featured in Observador, NiT, and Gerador, and is available to collectors worldwide.

Made with care.

Each of my paintings is carefully crafted, inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world.

My work captures unique aspects of our environment, from sweeping landscapes and seascapes to intricate botanical details. Broad, flowing strokes convey the movement of wind and water, while delicate brushwork highlights the patterns and textures of plants and flowers.

Through this nature-inspired work, I aim to create a sense of energy and vitality, where colours and forms blend harmoniously, inviting you to experience both movement and serenity at once.
